Clear steps for property owners, landlords and managers.
Water Categories Describe Contamination
Category language helps communicate the potential level of contamination. Conditions can change over time and as water contacts building materials.
Category 1
Water begins from a sanitary source, such as some supply-line failures. It can deteriorate if it remains in the building or contacts contaminants.
Category 2
Water contains meaningful contamination and may cause illness if ingested or contacted. Some appliance discharges may fall into this range depending on contents and conditions.
Category 3
Grossly contaminated water, including sewage and many outside flood events. Porous-material removal and controlled cleaning are commonly required.
Drying Classes Describe the Amount and Distribution
Classes are used to describe how much material and area are wet and how difficult evaporation may be. They help inform equipment and monitoring, not insurance coverage.
